New Gatling Magic Website Design

Our old website has been online for almost three years; and in that time Gatling Magic has changed,  evolved, and moved forward an incredible amount.

So we decided that we needed a new website to reflect where Gatling Magic is today, and the direction that we’re now heading in.

As you can see, we’ve kept the red and black colour scheme, although we have slightly tweaked our logo.

The whole site is a lot brighter and more welcoming than the old one; there’s more images of us; and we’ve added a section on the home page to let people know where they can see us perform.

We’re really happy with the new design, and we hope to start adding more content to the site in the coming months.

Llandudno’s Variety Show

Last week we took part in Llandudno’s Variety Show, the very first event staged by Evoid Events.

Jay took on the role of compère, introducing each act and keeping the audience entertained while the stage was being set.

There were plenty of local acts taking part, including Mad Haven, Hannah Sifleet and the Unknown Dancers.

Our friend Dean Raymond also did a spot, and successfully performed a dangerous magic routine involving a metal spike and five paper bags.

Jay was a fantastic host for our first ever Evoid events variety show, his lively banter and audience interactive tricks in-between acts where brilliant, and worked well with the audience all night, it was a pleasure to have him working with us and would love him to come to our future shows.

A Truly Magical Day

llandudno-town-hall-wedding-confetti

As promised, here’s the explanation for the lack of posts recently: we got married!

We moved house back in April, and between then and June, we spent most of our time organising the wedding. To say that things were chaotic doesn’t even begin to cover it, but we got everything sorted in the end.

The day itself was amazing, and we had glorious sunshine all day. It was great to be surrounded by family and friends and to share the day with them. And as you can see, Bernie played a vital role as our unique ring bearer.

Of course, there was plenty of entertainment at the reception afterwards, provided courtesy of our friends Dean Raymond, Harley the Clown, and Roslyn Walker.

They all put on extra special performances just for us,  including Harley doing a dangerous balancing act that he normally only attempts with small children – except that this time he performed it with Jay sat on his shoulders!

It looked rather precarious, but they both managed to stay balanced and got a huge round of applause.

Jay also couldn’t resist the opportunity to take part too, and show some of his magical routines.

Appropriately, he chose to perform his linking rings routine, and a chain escape with a twist – instead of escaping, we ended up chained together!

We had an incredible day, one that we will always remember. We’re so happy that after eight years together, we’re finally married, and have got everything we’ve been dreaming of for so long.

The name’s Bond, James Bond

We’ve been rather busy of late, so I’m a little behind with the blog posts. (If you’re wondering what it was that kept us so busy, visit the blog again later in the week, and there’ll be a post all about it.)

Today’s blog is a combination of two of our recent events, that share a common strand.

Firstly, back in June we performed at a James Bond themed evening for the Venue Cymru Fundraisers and the Llandudno Lions. It was a great chance for us to try something new, and we themed our magic using ideas and music from the James Bond films.

We almost also ended up with a stowaway, when Bernie tried to sneak into one of our bags when we weren’t looking. We managed to persuade him to stay at home, but he wasn’t very happy about it!

At the beginning of July we took part in the North Wales Magic Circle’s annual stage and cabaret competition.

Inspired by the themed show that we’d just done, we put together a new act specially for the competition. The ten minute act used music from the James Bond films as a backdrop to the magic.

Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod 2014

We were back at the Llangollen International Musical Esteddfod last week, and we had just as much fun as last year!

This year, we did walk around magic and performed on the outdoor stages again.

We took part in the Tuesday night Carnival of Nations show on the stage in the main pavilion. It was amazing to work with artists such as Cirque du Soleil performer Bruce Bilodeau and the Gandini Jugglers.

We also ended up on television – the S4C film crew asked Jay to perform some magic for them. The piece was shown on their Saturday show.

If you missed the programme, or if S4C isn’t available in your area, the programme will be available on Clic for the next month. Skip ahead to around 66 minutes in, and there we are!

Jay entertained lots of different groups throughout the Eisteddfod, both with close up magic right in front of them, and with larger tricks during the stage shows.

There were some wonderful reactions to the magic, it’s always so nice to see people enjoying themselves.
