“A great showman”

“Are You Watching Closely?”

“Last night we visited the magic bar with little idea of what to expect, and left absolutely won over by the friendly staff, lovely food and cosy venue, and with a magical spring in our step today imparted by the prestigious (inside reference) Jay Gatling.

Navigating classical magic through Jay’s eloquent, witty, and philosophical lens really creates a wonderous and entertaining show that still has us wondering “how did he do that?”, as well as leaving us with a profound appreciation for the art of magic. A great showman who knows how to interact with a crowd as well as being sensitive to each person’s level of interaction, I would highly recommend this show to everyone!

“Movie Goers Meets Magic”

“Hello,
We were away for a weekend and with a spare evening we looked for things to do.

We saw that a magician called Jay Gatling had a show called Are You Watching Closely which was a very classical set of effects. He was funny and charming and the crux of the show was him sharing his love of nerdy things like Rubik’s Cubes and films and cinema.

It was also a bunch of very showy and visual tricks.

Before the show, we ate and had a few drinks. The food was lovely and they had a nice selection of drinks and cocktails (I had the sticky toffee pudding with custard!)

The staff were friendly and the magician went from table to table before his stage show started to show us some up close magic.

After the show finished, we stuck behind to chat with the manager and bar staff who were friendly as we talked a bit about the history of the bar.

If we went on another getaway to Wales, we’ll definitely try to see another show here. The prices were pretty cheap for tickets and it was nice not having to find a separate place to eat before we went out.

“We went to Llandudno to visit a friend for the first time and we went to the magic bar to the “are you watching closely” show by Jay Gatling. It was absolutely fantastic. Very very good show highly recommended. We also had dinner and drinks which was very good and fairly priced. We will absolutely go again when we visit.

“Are You Watching Closely?” at the Magic Bar Live – 20th of February

The second 2026 performance of Are you watching closely? takes place at the Magic Bar Live in Llandudno on Friday the 20th of February. So if you missed out on the first performance of the year, there’s another chance to catch it.

Join magician, Conwy Wizard and possible Time Lord, Jay Gatling for an evening of astounding trickery and skill. Whether he’s solving a Rubik’s Cube blindfolded, making random items float elegantly through the air or just casually reading your mind. You’re certain to leave the show believing that nothing is impossible, just a bit unlikely.
