The Original Conwy Pirate Festival 2019: 2 days of swashbuckling fun!

Conwy Pirate Weekend 2019 flyer

Ahoy there mateys! Avast and pay heed…savvy? Right, that’s plenty of pirate talk landlubbers… okay that was the last one. What can we say? We’re excited to be a part of the awesome Original Conwy Pirate Festival 2019. You can’t beat dressing up as a pirate and drinking plenty of tea… that’s what pirates drink, right?

On the 1st and 2nd of June Conwy will once more play host to an invasion of pirates, buccaneers and swashbucklers as the Navy try to defend the quay from them; to no avail of course.

There will be much to see and do for big and small pirates alike, including event favourites such as the fancy dress competition, and the barrel and keg races. There will be loads of pirate games for all to enjoy and much, much more, all within the amazing setting that is Conwy town.

When pirates clash…

Jay will be there helping to compere the event alongside performing his pirate magic, as well as being joined by his shipmate Erwyd, so this can only mean one thing…FIGHT!

Pirates being pirates there’s bound to be some sort of disagreement, like who gets the last pie, so the inevitable will undoubtedly occur. Erwyd and Gatling will be taking to the quay with their hugely enjoyable and much requested sword duel; be sure to be there and cheer for your favourite pirate and boo for the other; it’s amazing fun for all the family so don’t miss out. You never know, there may even be some other magical/juggling surprises!

As a first for The Original Conwy Pirate Festival this year, Erwyd and Gatling will be leading the charge as part of an audacious invasion of the most fortified part of Conwy Town: a fine prize for any pirate, and one that is considered an un-winnable reward. But you can be sure this dastardly crew don’t know the meaning of the word (seriously, most of them can’t read). That’s right, if you haven’t guessed by now, the Conwy pirates will be leading an attack on Conwy Castle itself.

As you can tell we can’t wait for this event, and we hope that you’re excited too. Arrr you going to be there? If so put on your tricorn hat, strap your cutlass to your side and perfect your best sneer and we’ll see you at the most diabolical event in North Wales. The Original Conwy Pirate Festival 2019.

Erwyd – The Conwy Jester

Our friend Erwyd was officially installed as the Conwy Jester last weekend in a traditional medieval ceremony within the walled town.

He’s the first jester to live within the walls of Conwy in over 700 years, and had to prove his worth by completing three trials before he was awarded his jester’s hood.

We were both there to support Erwyd on his big day, and Jay even got to perform a little bit of magic during the ceremony.

Two The Hilt: Conwy Pirate Weekend 2015

Conwy Pirate Weekend 2015 saw the début performance of Two The Hilt’s epic pirate sword fight.

Erwyd had discovered a rare artefact, one that Gatling had been searching for… so like all good pirates, they decided to settle the matter of ownership with a good old-fashioned duel!

Swords clashed and banter was traded, and after the blindfold challenge was complete, only one pirate could be victorious.

There was a great atmosphere with so many of the crowd dressed up in their best pirate costumes, and it was fabulous to be out in the sunshine. All our audiences over the weekend were really enthusiastic, cheering on their favourite pirate to win.

Knights and Princesses in Conwy

conwy-knife-juggling

Gallant knights and beautiful princesses, a jester, a magician, balloon models, jousting, bouncy castles and a hot dog stand,  and some beautiful birds of prey… this was our day on the Quay in Conwy.

The main feature of the event was a competition to see who would be the official Knight and Princess of Conwy. The competitors all took part in a bravery test, where Harley the Clown juggled sharp knives over them!

As always, Bernie the bunny was with us, and he made lots of new friends in the Coastal Hawks Project. He enjoyed sitting up high on their tent, watching everyone walk past; and he really liked looking at all their swords and armour.

But most of all, Bernie loved their birds.

You might think that a rabbit would be scared to go near predators like these, but not Bernie!

First of all Bernie tried to persuade Angel, the eagle owl, to give him a ride.

Bernie also met a hungry hawk, and narrowly avoided becoming lunch.

After that, he decided to be a bit more careful!

Finally, Bernie met Merlin and Morgana, two barn owls, with magical names.

Bernie especially liked their white feathers, he thought that they looked a lot like him!

We all had a wonderful day in Conwy, and we’re counting the days until our next event there.
